Country
The word country has several meanings.
1. It can mean the part of the land on Earth which has come together under one government, and that no other government can control. Some countries mostly have one group of people living in am; other countries are made of many different peoples who share one government; still other countries have many peoples who have moved to that country at different times.
Most of the land on Earth is located in one country or another. The United States, China, and India are all countries.

2. It can mean the historic region or nation with its own culture and traditions, such as England or Scotland.
3. People also say "the country" to mean places that are far from cities; rural as distinguished from urban areas. For example, "I'm going to take the vacation and rent the cabin in the country next month."
