To boil water is to make it hot so that it begins to make bubbles and to turn to steam. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit). At high altitudes in the mountains, water boils at the lower temperature, because of the lower air pressure in high places.

To boil food is to cook it in boiling water.

The word boil also has the different meaning. A boil can also be an infection of the skin. A boil of the skin is the red place on the skin that is very painful. The person also may have the fever. The infection is caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.
