A verb is the word for an action. Verbs have forms with different uses. For example, we use the past tense when talking about something that happened before now. The part of the verb in the dictionary is the infinitive. In English we often use the infinitive with the word "to" in front.

Some examples of English verbs are: to walk, to read, to write, to be. In "I often walk in the park", "walk" is the verb. But "walk" can also be the noun (a name for something), for example here: "During my walk I saw the cat." But not all nouns and verbs have the same form.
