Please explain what influence your activity will have on Wikimedia Projects
(e.g. quantitative: number of new pictures uploaded to commons, no of new articles created / qualitative: strengthen the community of german-speaking wikipedia authors etc,): I have been (active) wikipedian since 2018. At that time, I used contribute to bnwiki from a smartphone. I applied for a hardware donation from WMF (here) previously and got a lot of endorsements from my community, but no luck. Then I bought a used laptop of a local brand Daffodil Computer Lab worth of 23,000 BDT in 2022. With that laptop, I continued to contribute technologically to wikimedia movement by creating various tools, bots, language converters such as:

  • নকীব বট (inactive): A bot for various tasks in bnwiki.
  • Mayek Bot (retired): A bot for transliteration of Manipuri Language from Meitei script to Bangla Script
  • A patch where I created the Language Converter for manipuri language from meitei script to Bangla script
  • FnF List Generator: A tool for generating a list of missing article about a certain topic in the local language.
  • CampWiz: A tool for streamlining the hosting campaigns, submitting articles and evaluating the submissions with more scrutiny. It was officially used by more than 40 languages in Feminism and Folklore 2024. This tool was awarded Coolest Tool Award 2024 in honorable mention category.
  • ধ্বংসপ্রবণতা শনাক্তকারী বট: A bot for detecting edit-war and suspected invalid username in bnwiki.

I participated in Wikimedia Hackathon 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia with this laptop and created a completely new language converter for manipuri language from meitei script to Bangla script (which was featured on MediaWiki Product Insights July 2024).

Then, I applied to Wikimedia Switzerland for scholarship to participate in Wikimania 2024 in Katowice, Poland. After their careful judgement and thorough investigation on my contributions, they approved my scholarship application. After I went to Katowice and wanted to participate in hackathon there, suddenly I discovered my laptop just would not start. After a lot of panicking, I, with the help from a fellow wikimedian, managed to start up the laptop and started working on a project. But my laptop kept dying and dying. My warranty was not applicable (because it is local brand and I bought it as used laptop). In the meantime, I got the news that my developed tool CampWiz got selected for Coolest Tool Awards 2024 in Honorable Mention category. I got very happy along with my Teammates Tiven, Joy, Tonni. During the wikimania, I and Ulrich, the representative from Wikimedia Switzerland discussed about a possibility of working on a project for Wikimedia Switzerland. After returning home, I found my laptop permanently dead with all of my project data inside its SSD. Since then, I became unable to perform any technical contribution to any of the wikimedia movement. This grant might enable me to start contributions again without having to worry about crashing the laptop again and again.
