[edit]

Elive is a Linux distribution based on Debian, designed to provide a fast, visually polished and relatively lightweight desktop environment.

It is particularly known for:

  • using the Enlightenment desktop to create animated and highly configurable interfaces;
  • combining eye‑candy effects with modest hardware requirements;
  • offering a ready‑to‑use system with many applications preconfigured for multimedia, internet and everyday desktop tasks.

Early versions of Elive gained attention for showing that even older computers could run a modern, attractive graphical desktop smoothly.

[edit]

Elive focuses on delivering a complete desktop experience “out of the box”:

  • It is built on Debian, so it inherits Debian’s package management and software repositories.
  • The Enlightenment‑based desktop provides compositing, themes and animated effects while still aiming to be lightweight.
  • The system includes preconfigured tools for multimedia playback, internet browsing, office work and system administration.

Your choice of Elive is often motivated by a desire for a distinctive look and feel while still staying within a familiar Debian‑compatible ecosystem.
